If you were to drop the phone on a corner of a table or rock not flat or level surface then the screen protector would prevent screen crack. Case is more just for impact or crush protection. Recommend screen protector along with case.

It is up to you if you want to protect your screen or not. I've had screen protectors break but the face of the phone was fine. I have had a ding from dropping the phone on its face and the protector broke but the phone screen did not. It is all up to you.
