The sides are not rubbery. They are rather slippery.

I carry my iPhone in a back jacket/jersey pocket when I go cycling and I have taken it out of my pocket, with the phone being totally wet, and no problems holding onto it! The only time I’ve dropped it is when I have fallen asleep on the couch and it has slipped out of my hand.
