Will this work with a smart plug to turn it on and off? null

Regarding Ottlite's Mood LED Color Changing Base Desk lamp w/ USB Charging (mode #CSB3000W), Ottlite's Engineer does not think the lamp will work w/ a smart plug, as when the smart plug is turned on it just means the electricity is now going to the lamp, the on/off button on the lamp will still need to be engaged in order to turn the lamp on/off. No. The Ottlites that I own do not have physical on/off buttons. The switches are electronic. So once the power is cut off and then turned back on (via a smart plug), the lights do not come back on. The electronic switches do, which requires them to be manually touched to turn the lights back on. It’s unfortunate. I have a sewing room full of Ottlites. I put them all on a power strip and then plugged it into a smart plug. You can imagine my disappointment when I realized the Ottlites switch limitations.

I would question Ott-Lite’s engineer's answer to this question. It would seem like most smart switches would switch on and off an appliance which has its own on off switch. Usually, that switch would always be left in the on position and the power would be turned on and off with a smart switch. It would seem like this would be the case with this light. I do not own this light, at least not yet, so perhaps I am missing something but I have several products that have their own on off switch being operated by a smart switch that apparently would work like this light.
