“Is there a protective cover that needs to be peeled off the key pad. Microwave is not a month old. A hole/tear appeared over one of the numbers on the key pad. this is similar to a protective (plastic) cover that would need to be removed. Never had this before....is this new or a defect. This is the 2nd panasonic we have had and there was nothing to indicate removal of any protective plastic covering........”

Yes, there is a protective cover. We did not notice it at first, and got a little tear.

I have also had two of these microwaves and never had that trouble. Also I don't believe you have to peel anything off the keypad.
