• I have used the previous series for about 7 years and the cleaner system is necessary only if you have very dense hair, oily skin or if you use ointments on your skin regularly. Those factors cause the hair to stick onto the blades and simply cleaning with water is not enough. If none of these apply for you I guess you should be fine without the cleaning stand and cleaning with water would be fine.

• You can just rinse it under water. They sell it with and without the cleaning stand.
