Yes, it has a 3.5mm microphone jack. You should get a microphone that has its own power, i.e. one that takes batteries. The audio preamps on consumer camcorders like this one can get noisy with unpowered mics.

It also comes with what is called a hot shoe adapter that will slide into the back of the camera to mount a directional mic. It can be easily released with a slide switch for storage. You could also mount any number of wireless mic recievers and plug in the same way as long as the input to camera is 3.5mm. The pre-amp is rather poor and adds a lot of hiss. I turned the pre-amp down in camera settings to -30dB and use the gain controls on the mic itself. You will need to test and adjust camera and mic to eliminate hiss without sacrificing signal or clarity. I shoot mostly stationary with a mixer board so I control the gain there.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Microphone input native is a 5.1 located on top of the camera. A mounted directional mic does not exist for this model. Depending on how you are going to record would allow the use of a directional mic? If you are recording in studio or static location it would be possible to use a directional mic not mounted on the camera, but if you are wanting the mic to be located on the camera and you are using the system as a hand held video camera shooting your child's birthday party NO WORK.
