• Hi Linny! The batteries are provided in the box with the phone, if you wish to purchase additional ones, the compatible ones are HHR-4DPA. To use the answering machine, you would only need to press on the base the Answer ON/OFF button to turn it on. Additional information can be found in the manual or in our FAQs. -G
