• It's a feature you can turn ON and OFF. It is ON by default.

• It does if it is a number that is identified with the carrier. So if a person has their phone listed it announces it. But only once. That is a change from my prior Panasonic set. It would keep announcing the name. This one says it only once so you have to be close to catch it or check the handset.
