Hi Mark, The dashcam does record at night, this model is equipped with a Sony Exmor sensor that automatically adjust to the time of day to make great night time footage. The dashcam does automatically turn on when the vehicle is started and will begin recording automatically as long as "Automatic Recording" mode is selected in your settings. You can view your files on the dashcam itself via "Playback Mode" or you can eject the micro SD card and insert it into the SD card adapter then insert both into your computer to view them there instead.
