A:AnswerUsing my ipad2 I managed about 800 feet without the sky controller. With the skycontroller I've only managed to get 1/2 mile of good signal without disconnecting. Much less than the advertised 1.2 miles. As a bebop 2 owner and parrot customer I must say I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. I've had nothing but problems from parrot from bad tech support, defective products, and terrible customer service. If your thinking about buying a bebop 2 you need to read this. A:AnswerNo cell service needed, this drone has its own WiFi. If you use your phone as remote connection is strong but limited. I recommend the controller
