• My desktop is very quiet, please make sure you have removed all the clear plastic tape from the edges of the monitor which might be blocking the vents?

• No, it should not make excessive noise. Of course the fans are designed to kick on when the system requires them, but they are not generally noisy nor do they usually operated when it's asleep.
