I tested with my Canon A-1 with 50mm f1.4. It does fit, snag and may different ways, lens up, lens towards front, down, side ways. But it is not an ideal shape for 35mm camera with a short lens as this bag is wide and relative flat, thus the lens protrude and deshape the bag.

Yes, (assuming you keep the lens attached to the camera). It would be a little bulky, and possible the Velcro closure might be a little difficult to close. But in general if should work. BUT, you are probably better off with a dedicated camera bag with a bit more padding... for similar or cheaper price.
