is this a rf unit null

The unit is IR. However the control of the Fire Stick TV is still RF because it's original remote is inserted in the unit and continues to be used as one integrated remote. I. E two remotes attached together to form one remote.

I am not certain what a "rf unit" is. However I will advise you that this device is not compatible with Insignia FireTVs, nor is the actual replacement remotes currently found in store. The only reason I mention this is because I was sold both by the associate helping me at the time, after providing them with the make and model of my TV. $50 needlessly spent...
