You might try installing with the hue bridge, let the bulbs download the lastest software/firmware updates, then try installing with the built-in Echo plus bridge.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Talked to Philips Hue folks who said the starter packs are not meant to go with the Echos on their own without the bridge (proprietary). But u can type in serial numbers of bulbs into Alexa app to make work w/o bridge. Thanks!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They do work with just the Echo Plus. I have 2 colored bulbs, 1 white bulb, and a light strip and all work just fine. They won't do any of the other "cool stuff" without the Philips Hub. I bought the Philips hub for this reason and everything got all messed up. I guess it had something to do with 2 hubs trying to control the same devices. I've been searching for information on how to use both devices at the same time to unlock all available features, with no luck. I now have a hub that I don't use.

The bridge is required to operate any hue lights, white or colored. Look at the bridge as a little computer, it stores the serial numbers of the bulbs AND YOUR DIFFERANT LIGHT OR MOOD SETTINGS. This bridge works with the app to turn your lights off and on for schedules you set up. Also any devices you normally connect to your network -REQUIRE YOUR WIFI PASWORD, the bridge is hardwired to tour WiFi and does not require a pasword for all your bulbs, this makes set up much easier. The bridge also checks and updates the firmware to your bulbs. Without the bridge you would need to do this manually. The bridge SERVES MANY MANY FUNCTIONS, but generally only serves 50 bulbs, the app only allows you to be connected to one bridge at a time, if you have 200 bulbs you will need 4 bridges and to program your bulbs or to adjust colors you must switch from bridge A to B to C or to D as needed. This switching requires pressing the sync button on the bridge and must be done locally, bridges cannon be changed over the internet. There are also over 30 differant apps that will provide additional programming / lighting functions to your bulbs. The native hue app does NOT synced your color bulbs to music. The hug color light also allow custom programming with hue labs, this lighting system is very very sufisticated allowing unlimited options, when you consider all of this you will understand why they cost $50 each, you are paying for all these functions - they are sort of like a mini iPhone in its first version, the color is only a small part of what they do!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The bridge is what lets your phone or the remote communicate with the bulbs. I think you have to plug in the bridge
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You asked this a few weeks ago so not sure if you figured it out yet.. but here's my suggestion: I'd make sure your Echo Plus is up to date. If that doesn't work make sure the bulbs are up to date (via the bridge, sounds like you have one). After that, make sure you delete/reset the bulbs from the bridge then try to discover them w/ the Echo Plus.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I purchased this kit to use with my Alexa. I do have to use the hub but it doesn’t bother me at all. The system works great whether you want different colors or if you sync it with an app to get ambient colors for movies.
