• It just has to be on the network. Mine is plugged into a switch which plugs into my router.

• You will be better off connecting it straight to your wifi router. If you either don't have enough space on the router or do not want to put the bridge in the same place you will be fine plugging it into a wall outlet but it is better off in the router
