“Can the bulbs and hub work to allow for control of and outside door entrance light?”

• Yes, you can put a bulb outside and if your wifi reaches that far you can control the bulb. These bulbs are officially not for outside though, however, I have one outside since it is covered by an overhang and the glass around the lamp and it works fine.
