I actually use the Osram Lightify hub. I have some Osram bulbs and some Hue bulbs. The hub I use recognizes both. Google the compatibility of your hub. But you must use a hub to control your lights.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this product requires a Hue bridge. Just buy the starter set that comes with two bulbs and the bridge. Good value and literally takes up no space. You can even hide it in a closet if you just don't like seeing the hub.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. The bridge is what connects the bulb to the Home (in your case). The Home and Echo do not contain the technology to control the lights, the bridge does. The Home and Echo talk to the bridge and the bridge is what controls the frequency in the light.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They worked with my GE hub which is also Zigbee protocol. You won't have the voice control though
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a hue bridge, but there are other bulbs that you can use just the smartthings hub. I believe lifx bulbs and a couple others
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Philips sells a combo pack of a lightbulb and Hue dimmer switch that is able to function without a Hue bridge and control up to 10 bulbs. They are calling this the Hie Light Recipe Kit, which I've attached to this answer. However, if you want to control more bulbs via smartphone or any connected devices, you will certainly need a Hue bridge. The bulbs aren't "smart" enough to coordinate with each other without having the bridge to conduct their actions, if that makes sense. Checkout that light recipe kit, and see if it meets your needs without a bridge.
