• You will need a Philips Hub in order to control them with your phone. Otherwise, they will just work like normal light bulbs (i.e. they will turn on and off when you flip the switch). They act like repeaters so the more you have, the better the range will be.

• The Hue bridge is required to run the Hue lights. And the Hue bridge needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network. Once the bridge is set up, you can control your lights from anywhere :-)

• The Philips Hue bulbs require the bridge found in the starter pack. You'll only need the one bridge and it's hardwired into your router. If you need more bulbs you can expand by purchasing them individually from there.

• They work with the Philips bridge. I believe they work with the Wink Hub as well. I use the Philips bridge and it's great. They will work as far as your wifi will reach.

• You will need a Hue Bridge to operate your lights. You connect the Bridge to your WAN vie a provided Ethernet cable. I do not know the exact range, but my lights work off single Bridge in my two story 3200sqft home.

• From the information I have, Hue led lights require the proprietary Hub to connect to your own WiFi network. With that in mind, range should be anywhere you can get an Internet connection to the App. LIFX LED lights are very similar to Phillips, but don't require any hub and are brighter FYI .
