• I believe you do, yes. The only way you'd be able to control the lights is if they were connected to the bridge. Otherwise, they will just turn on to a "warm white".

• You have to use the hub with a smartphone control unless you integrate the bulb(s) with an Amazon Alexa Echo device that has hub capability - Echo+ for one.
