“If I'm not using a hue bridge, what is the maximum amount of these light bulbs I can control via Bluetooth? The product description says maximum of 50 if I use the bridge.”

As far as i know, you can only control the bulbs when the bridge is connected. If no bridge is connected your light switches will control the bulbs like a standard bulb would. Without the bridge your hue bulbs will be just bulbs.
