The simple answer is yes you do need a bridge. If you’re asking this question there is no need to get into the long answer of what protocol do hue lights use and ways to avoid using a bridge. The Hue products are high quality and work near flawlessly. Definitely worth the investment. Make sure you buy a second generation bridge.
