Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If all you do is a quick rinse under tap water without taking the brush head off the base motor, then the black-oily substance is a petri dish. Separate them at least weekly, wash the top of the motor + bottom of the brush. For now, Hit it with some isopropyl alcohol or household cleaner, & then let it dry apart. Then follow routine cleaning instructions on the Sonicare web site https://www.usa.philips.com/c-f/XC000006631/how-to-clean-my-philips-sonicare-toothbrush. You tend to see this with individuals vs family- shared motors/bases. Why?. Because the shared motor doesn't usually sit/stay attached to the brush, & gets taken apart to change brushes and charge, so if it's more likely to get cleaned and dry out while apart.
