Yes, you need a free Amazon account to download free apps. If you do not want to use the Amazon Fire TV OS, try to hook up a different streaming device into one of the HDMI inputs on the TV.

Please try again later.The Fire TV, Fire TV, is like owning a fire TV stick it is the same operating system if you go to Roku you're going to have to sign up for a Roku account if they want a credit card to have on file and your concerned just get a gift card or one of those cards that you can put $2 on it if you're not going to buy anything but the Fire TV has features you could sideload some apps but if you go to Roku everything is ran through the Roku operating system That's just the way it is you get an Android TV or Google TV LG Samsung have their own operating systems You're still probably going to have to sign up for an account That's how smart TVs work unless you just want to watch local TV all the time on your antenna.
