It MIGHT read a CD/DVD/BD formatted as a data disk (so treat it pretty much like jump drive/memory card with files) but I wouldn't bet on that. And most certainly it won't play commercial BD or even DVD. It's just a drive, a small part of what BD or DVD player is. When connected to PC, computer does all the decoding. Well, technically modern smart TV is a computer too so nothing precludes it from running BD or DVD decoders (providing it has enough computing power). That's it, except licensing fees. So why would TV manufacturers pay for them without including their own, built in BD drive? That makes no sense. Maybe it is possible to write a third party BD/DVD app for some TVs but I never heard about such thing. Anyway, a decent BD player for Windows/Mac costs $50 (on sale) so in the end you'll likely to pay more than for a normal BD player.
