“It says that the system isn't available for pick-up or shipping. With pre-orders, how does this make any sense? My nearest Best Buy is 2 hours away and my nearest store that sells games is 1 hour away, I'm not driving that to risk not having it in stock.”

Simple, you dont pick it up. Its not available yet. You preorder online, if your lucky for the que; than you can select pickup or delivery on release date. There is one more release Nov 11th for select retailers. These are your physical releases. The ones who stand in line.
