“How can this thing fit into a minitower if length is over 12 inches and height is 7 inches (as per dimension specs - in mm)...is this perhaps the package (box) dimensions? Does it fit into hp z240?”

Simple answer, it doesn't. For my HP Pavilion 510 desktop, I bought a pci-E extender that allows you to have the graphics card outside of the tower itself, because the card would not physically fit in my tower.
