An internet connection is only needed for online trading and battles. Otherwise I don't believe it is required for normal gameplay.

Please try again later.from the way Nintendo has explained, you will have to have the internet subscription to use a vast majority (if not all) of the online functions for the Nintendo Switch, so it's safe to say you'll have to pay for it; on the bright side, it's only $20 compared to Sony and Microsoft's $60 price tag

Please try again later.Yes and no. -To play the game itself, you don't need the network connectivity. -You will need it if you want to trade, use the Wi-Fi battle features and whatnot. In my opinion, it is worth the expense, given that you would already be enjoying Mario Kart, Splatoon, Smash Bros. Ultimate and other titles with their network features.
