• You're going to get a much much much more accurate reading if you choose to go with a monitor with a chest strap. I own a monitor that has the optical HR sensor and I absolutely despise it.

• Polar recently introduce a product dubbed the A360 that captures heart rate via an optical sensor on the back of the watch - Mike @ Polar USA

• Polar just came out with a new model M200, with an optical heart rate monitor build into the watch, without the strap. I just bought it myself, and so fare it seems pretty accurate.
