This will depend on the television. Televisions with SP/DIF optical output and/or bluetooth output probably will automatically turn off the internal speakers. Older televisions or televisions which you connect via left/right RCA cables or other analogue mechanisms may not do so. If you use the televisions headphone port, this will usually mechanically disconnect the TV's internal speakers.
