Can you hookup to a surround sound system null

I'm thinking the answer is no, this sound bar cannot be combined with surround sound unless the surround sound system also uses a HDMI connector. The Polk soundbar comes with a wireless subwoofer to simulate surround sound. The sound bar itself can be connected with a HDMI connector or an optical connection. The cords are provided with the Polk system.
