The previous owner of our home installed the earlier model of these in the backyard, placing them under the overhang of the roof. That seems to protect them from rain, because after three years of our using them, they still sound great after surviving numerous (sometimes severe) rainstorms. As for temperature, it probably depends of your location. In Texas, our winters aren't that harsh (temperatures occasionally get into the teens) and there aren't any temperature ratings on the manufacturer website. Considering Polk is a good brand and they are built for the outdoors, I would imagine they are pretty hardy. Possibly covering them in severe cold might help buy some piece of mind. Overall, the previous models were impressive enough that we bought this model to add to the existing setup.
