“I have my front speakers on either side of the entertainment system. However, I am running out of floor space on that wall. Can I put the subwoofer on a cedar chest next to one of the front speakers? It's approx.24" off of the floor. Thanks.”

Sub woofers are all common in that the sound they put out is Non Directional. That means aiming at a position isn't necessary like a tweeter or Mid speaker. Their frequency output means you can put it anywhere. Behind anything. It doesn't need to be seen. I'd make sure the chest is full and not allow any more vibration.
