• My computer/electronics geek son-in-law says use both inputs of the subwoofer with a Y as you described. It will work with only one input, but he says better to use both.

• You can connect just the white connection in the back of the subwoofer into your amp with an RCA cable. Or, you can get a dual RCA cable to a single RCA cable. If your amp is a 5.2, you just plug in your Red & White RCA cables from the back of the subwoofer to the amp.
