• This is just a passive speaker. You'll need some kind of amplifier to drive it. Given that it's a center speaker, it is meant to be part of a surround sound system. You should have a surround sound receiver (most AV receivers support at least 5.1 (left, right, center, left surround, right surround and the sub-woofer). If all you need is a little better sound for your TV, you should get a sound-bar. Most sound-bars have build-in amplifiers.

• Yes, that would be best route. It looks a bit like a sound bar but this speaker needs to be powered by an amp or av receiver.
