No you do not have to be online to play the game, but if you want to update to newer content you will need an internet conection

No you don't have to my kids and I can play on different tv's instead of sharing one.

No not at alll, No!. I did not like it. It looks good, On line only, the flying part was hard and not fun. I'm sorry I got the game.
