No, there is no place to put a book or magazine.

Perhaps.....there is a big of a lip that you might be able to set a thin magazine on. My wonder would be if it would stay while you're running due to the vibrations. However, you could read a book on a tablet as there is an extension above the display screen that holds tablets. Hope this helps.
