The item is not very heavy, but does have 4 felt/rubber nubs on the bottom to prevent sliding. The power cord is quite thick (think power strip cord thick), so it has a bit of weight pulling if it hangs over an edge. You would probably need to leave about 6+ inches of cord on top with the item.
