“Youtube reviews on this keyboard state that one of the cons of this keyboard is no USB passthrough AND it takes up two usb connections to work? The cord on this looks like a single USB cord. Is this true or do I need two open USB slots for this keyboard?”

I can confirm that there is no usb passthrough and it does take up 2 usb slots. It was definitely a surprise to find that but still worth it in my opinion. My thinking is that it is one for the keyboard and then one for the lighting. I bought a powered 10-slot USB hub to expand my capability and it works great through that. I have all of my peripheral devices running through the hub so I can switch it from laptop to laptop more quickly. The only drawback so far (if you can call it that) is how loud the keys are. It sounds more like a typewriter than a keyboard. I like it when it's just me but worry a bit that it's too loud when I'm in a meeting.
