The headphones are plugged into the Xbox One controller. The Xbox One controller outputs the sound to the headphones. There doesn't seem to be any loss of Fidelity by doing this. The sound on the TV will need to be muted or turned down. The TV will continue to output sound until turned down or mute. The microphone continues to work when it is plugged into the Xbox One controller. There is no mute on the microphone.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't know if it depends on other variables, but my husband uses this headset and pumps the game sound and chat sound only through the headset. The tv/sound system is not engaged at all. But he can use it for only chat and have the game sound go through the tv/sound system if he wants as well. Hope that helps.
