Yes, the wireless receiver is in the charging stand. There is an option to use the mouse with a micro USB cable, although due to the scroll wheel, you almost have to use the cable that plugs into the charging stand, because it is designed to work with the design of the mouse and its scroll wheel. I'm sure there are other USB cables that will work with it, but I would recommend looking at how the port is designed on on the mouse before buying a third-party cable. That's because of how the port is recessed.
