It's intended purpose is for managing your mouse cord. Since my mouse is wireless, I use it for other cords. It was on sale and a great conversation starter!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Its use is to keep a wired mouses cord taught but free movement because it has a tension spring that easily gives when the mouse cord is moved within it's area of operation
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It holds your mouse cord. You run it through the middle metal part and it clips in. Doesn't damage the cord whatsoever and you can adjust for more or less slack as needed. I looked into the product and purchased it because I was constantly tugging on my mouse for more cord or moving the cord away when in game since it would get in the way. Definitely worth it for anyone who has the same issue. The quality, build and size is top notch.
