My son says its a one handed keyboard that the keys can be altered for easier use for gaming

Game pads like this are for gamer's that want a more ergonomic experience. I personally, love using these for MOBA style games. using the thumb analogue on the side works great for moving the camera around, saving me from having to use my mouse for moving around the camera.

As someone who's used this for about 6 years now, there are a few main uses for this style of gaming controller over a usual keyboard: much smaller size than a keyboard (when I started I had a tiny desk to play on and could only fit something like this. This is about 6 inches wide, and even the smallest keyboards are still a good foot wide.) , better ergonomics (depends on design but the button layout of this is designed to be alot more comfortable than a normal keyboard, and I have even made a custom mount for my tarterus to tilt it on its side like a vertical mouse to give it even better ergonomics), more options to tinker with your device (if you like customizability, these keypads can be VERY customizable with multiple button layers. Means one button can do multiple things.) And lastly if your a heavy macro user these are very useful for that. While most gaming keyboards can do macros fine, they are still big keyboards. You can buy button pads like a 3x3 or 5x5 but most don't have great or very complicated macro support. So, if you want a macro pad for complicated macros but don't want a large keyboard these gaming keypads can be the best option for that as they are relatively small, have lots of buttons (on average 20-40, this ones got 32 i think?) and have really good macro support being gaming devices.

The keypad is meant to replace the left side of the keyboard for gaming. Most games only require a small portion of the left side of the keyboard (WASD controls and then the surrounding keys). By using this as a gaming keyboard it can be oriented easier and frees up desk space for the mouse, making it an especially popular pick for first person shooter enthusiasts.

It is for hardcore gamers, basically a shortcut keyboard.

It's for playing games, primarily. You can use it to execute macros, as well
