• off, you need to push a button in the back of antenna.

• The red light means the amplifier is turned on. I believe this model has a switch on the side that turns the amplifier off and on. Use the amplifier if you are further away from the tower. If your close it will actually have the opposite affect and give you a worse signal due to interference.
