It depends on the manufacturer of your display. Some manufacturers don't include the internal circuitry (Vizio) to just hook up an antenna and watch over the air broadcasts. If you have a TV that doesn't need a convertor box, you just need an antenna. It's important to know how the TV stations in your area broadcast: low VHF, VHF, or UHF; as this effects which kind of antenna you should get. If you live in a large urban area, a general multi-directional antenna should work fine. If you are further out, you should consider an antenna that also has "rabbit ears".
