You need to keep this antenna anywhere it will pick up all the channels you have available. I had to put it in the window.

YOU WANT TO PUT THE ANTENNA AS HIGH UP AND CLOSE TO A WINDOW. BUT, THE CABLE MAY NOT REACH THE WINDOW. I HUNG MINE AS HIGH AND CLOSE TO THE WINDOW AS i COULD GO. . BEHIND THE TV MAY NOT GIVE YOU THE BEST RECEPTION.

You can place the unit anywhere, however for best reception place it nearest a window and off a metal base. This is what worked best for me.

Depends on the building materials. For normal homes, behind the TV is fine. If the building has a lot of steel, however, it will perform better near a window.
