• Yes the phone could be AC powered or with batteres which we purchased and easily installed.

• Yes and NO. If you want this phone to store numbers or you want to use the hands free speaker option, then you need to install batteries - i think 3 AA. Phone will still place and receive call without batteries.

• Yes batteries are needed in order for caller ID to be dark enough to read.
