Mary, we recommend changing the carbon filter sheets every 3 months and the true HEPA every 12 months. All Winix products have a "Check Filter Indicator" that will light up when it is time to change the true HEPA filter for your convenience!

I've only had my cleaners for a few months and so far I've only had to replace the prefilter once. I hope this helps.

The black filters should be replaced after 3 months. The HEPA filter each year.

The white filter lasts up to 1 year and the carbon pre filter lasts 3 months. It comes with a year supply in the box, and extra packs are a year supply at a time.
