• I'm using the in-car power cable (included) for plugging the dash cam to the 12V cigarette lighter socket and I simply unplug it before leaving the car, that's it, I believe it's safer.

• If you use your vehicle regularly and the battery is good, it's probably fine. However, if you're worried about battery drain, when installing the camera you could wire it to work only when the vehicle is on - personally that's what I do. (Of course, in that case you don't get the benefit of monitoring while parked.)
