I'm using the in-car power cable (included) for plugging the dash cam to the 12V cigarette lighter socket and I simply unplug it before leaving the car, that's it, I believe it's safer.

However, if you're worried about battery drain, when installing the camera you could wire it to work only when the vehicle is on - personally that's what I do. (Of course, in that case you don't get the benefit of monitoring while parked.)
