The rear facing camera has the cable hard wired onto it. You might get away with mounting it outside. It does not say waterproof on it. My windows are tinted. Though not overly dark. The back glass is severely angled, which has the effect of making the tint darker. I still get a good picture out of the rear. At night, the headlights of the following vehicle distort the picture more than the tint.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't think that the window tint will have an effect on the rear camera. As it is cable connected to the main camera external mounting is not a good idea from what I see from the use and safety manuals.
