“Can anyone tell me how long the battery lasts. I want to use this in a car not used every day. I am also looking to be able to monitor the car from a distance. Any recommendations?”

This item does not come with a battery. It uses a capacitor, this makes it much more durable in hot climates. If you want to use it while the car is off then you will need to get the hardwire kit (sold separately) and wire it straight to the fuse box in your vehicle. This will then allow it to use the car battery. The hardwire kit has built in protection to not drain the battery so the vehicle should still start. This item will also not allow you to monitor the vehicle from a distance. It has built in wifi but the range isn't very far.

Using only included 12v plug-in, that cones with camera will NOT keep camera battery charged. Unsure what you mean by “monitoring” from a distance. This camera will not function in that manners (as far as I am aware).
